Fire crews battle large brush fire near Port Alberni
Fire crews from Beaver Creek, Cherry Creek, Sproat Lake and Port Alberni responded, as well as Coastal Fire Centre members on the ground. The train from Alberni Pacific Railway had its water truck on the tracks, soaking the area from that perspective as well.
A helicopter contracted by the Coastal Fire Centre doused hotspots using a “bambi” bucket. All available tanker trucks, including one from the City of Port Alberni, filled a temporary water tank known colloquially as a “pumpkin pool” on a property off of Kingston Road, because there are no fire hydrants that far out.
The fire looked to be approximately 200 metres in length, but no official word has been given, nor has a cause for the fire.
